Squad : Graeme Smith returns after fixing borken arm


Herschelle Gibbs, the electrifying fielder, comes back to one day team. Graeme Smith's borken finger forced selectors to opt for new captain for ODI series in Australia 2 months ago. they picked Johan Botha, raising many eye brows but it paid off = 4-1 win.

Smith came back to lead Proteas side in first two tests at home against Australia, got injured (again) and selectors announced Ashwell Prince to lead the side in 3rd & final test. Interestingly, they changed their mind to Jaques Kallis hours before the game began. Now, for 5 ODI series against Australia, starting 3rd April 2009, Smith comes back as the leader.

Needless to say, South Africa is a deciplined cricket team. Each player knows his role in the side and hence, who is captaining them hardly matters. otherwise, Africans would had a taste of Pakistani flavour which is used to frequent captain change and hence they never had a stable team.

The only major change in South Africa squad for one day international series versus South Africa is Neil McKenzie. right handed opener had a terrible time in first two tests, and now find himself out of selectors support. Vaughn van Jaarsveld, the left handed middle order batter, had little to do in his previous series and he retains his place.

Wayne Parnell is one all-rounder world cricket will see frequently in coming days. Brisk left arm swing bowler and good attitute in batting, Parnell will gain from existing allrounders in Jaques Kallis, Albie Morkel and his brother Morne.

Herschelle Gibbs is another cricketer fans miss as Proteas selectors have ignored him for longer version games lately. An electrifying fielder, ideally suited for shorter version of cricket, Gibbs is back and seems hungry to cement his spot.
