Captain Ricky Ponting continued good work done by openers but in middle overs, Windies part time bowlers, specially Keiron Pollard and Dwayne Smith with their clever medium pace and left arm othodox of Nikita Miller as well as captain Gayle himself as offspinner. Australians did well to go part 250 run mark, utilising batting power play well.

West Indies were never in chase after captain Chris Gayle departed early, although Kieron Pollard's half century partnership with Lendl Simmons impressed with some good shots.
