So is VRV Singh really India's fastest bowler?

I wrote this article on VRV Singh - Vikram Rajvir Singh when he was first selected for Indian team.

I can't believe it's been 9 months since. Anyways, my first article on this supposedly India's fastest bowler was based on research I had done and what related people had to say about him..

But today, I've watched him on West Indies pitches, on Indian and Abu Dhabi wickets and his development in last 9 months.

What I can promise you is VRV Singh is India's Andrew Flintoff, but of course not in the same league with the bat in hand. Few people are blessed with huge body weight but also some mobility to run and delivery a cricket ball. What advantage they have is their whole body weight is behind the ball when they bowl, and it helps either through some extra bounce or additional pace.

Vikram Rajvir Singh from Punjab is raw. A little too raw to be thrown into the International test arena, but hey - that is where the Champions are made. Vikram Singh should consider himself lucky and must make the most.

He has a bowling action which keeps the ball very close to his body till the very last second before he delivers. This should mean that he will be able to slant the older ball in - which is called as reverse swing. Of course VRV hasn't yet explored that aspect of himself, and thus comes in and goes out of Indian national team.

VRV can bowl at the speed of 140 km/hr, but not consistently. I can't say for sure that he is the fastest bowler in India, as Sreesanth and Ajit Agarkar has touched 140 mark plenty of times, but with VRV's height and weight and also the high arm action - he certainly can be fastest in India.

Watching him in West Indies a few months ago, I got the feeling that he lacks energy. His typical length is a little short and he always tries to bounce-out the batsmen rather than forcing them to edge it. After every 4th over, he will start to show sign to tiring and Dravid would give him a break. I hope he has done lots of bowling in off season because all VRV needs is to bowl.

If he can bowl long spells - his height and weight will easily fetch International wickets for him. South African pitches will give him an advantage as well, but as Suresh Raina will tell him - International chances come seldom and demands performance.

VRV better be prepared whenever he gets the call..!!
