England Lions make roaring comeback over relaxing Indians


IshantSharmaUnImpressive.jpgFor some reason, England had decided to name their 'A' side as 'England Lions'. For some reason, headquaters ground of Essex county -- Chelmsford, was chosen as the host stadium, but the reason why India will look back to Day 1 of their 2nd tour match, to feel sad, is because they let the won momentum drift away..!!

ECB chariman of team selection - David Graveney, wanted to test the touring side before the big Npower test series, thus he chose a strong England Lions side, with captain Andrew Strauss & World Cup success Ravi Bopara. I hear Adil Rashid is another leg-spinner to watch out for, but lets start with how India's second practise match began... first, stand-in captain Sachin Tendulkar lost the toss.

England Lions into bat, before Zaheer Khan shattered the furniture behind Andrew Strauss's bat. Pitch report from former Essex/England batter Graham Gooch confirmed that Chelmsford 22yard stipe will be a batting paradise as the match progresses. Whatever help is their for fast bowlers, its on first day. In that sense, Indians were lucky to bowl first. Even Sreesanth looked like catching rhythm, taking the wicket of Owais Shah through miss-hook.

Joe Denly deserves an ODI spot in England, but to crack into national team - you need to make most of these tour games. 5th over by India's premier bowler Zaheer Khan was hit for 5 fours by Denly, who finally finished with 83 off 90 balls. At other hand, Jonathan Trott played typical 3 day innings scoring 46 from 120 minutes.

Uptill Lunch, England lions dominates this tour match, but exposure of Ramesh Powar turned things around. He took Denly stumped, whereas Zaheer caught the line in partnership from other end. At one postion, England lions were 185 for 6, but in case surpirse man TT Bresnan. England Lions must have perished by now, but Bresnan crafted his way to a century, helped immensly by Stuart Broad who was dropped thrice by Indians.. twice by wicket keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Addrew Strauss 1 (bowled by Zaheer), Joe Denly 83 off 90 with 16 fours (st Dhoni B Powar), Owais Shah 11 (C Zaheer b Sreesanth, Jonathan Trott 46 off 92 (c Ganguly b Zaheer), Ravi Bopara 29 (c Karthik b Tendulkar), TR Ambrose 4 (c Dhoni b Zaheer), Adail Rashid (c&b Powar), TT Bresnan 116 not out with 15 fours n a six off 156 balls, Stuart Broad 50 off 91 with 6 fours. Chris Tremlett was other not out batsman.
Total - 379 from 90 overs for 8 wickets.

Notes :
-Essex & Nottingamshire played the last first class match at Chelmsford, scoring 700 each. In this 3 day match, 100 overs per side is maximum limit for the first innings.
