India beat Srilanka in race to finals : Match 11Filed under

7 hours of a oneday cricket match, champion teams seize little opportunities & capitalize on it. mediocre teams go down and down once they fall behind. From 70/1 in 14 overs on a batting paradise - Lankan team were bowled out for just 179. I hate to say this, but Srilankans showed few signs of champion team they were in world cup 2007, just 10 month ago where they reached final. in 2008 triseries in Australia - they came third in a tournament of 3 teams. Today at Bellerive cricket ground in Hobart, India vs Srilanka match-up was last league game for Indian side - and they had to win to secure place in best of 3 finals with Australia. Srilanka, on other hand, had to win this match and also the last league game against Australia to be in the finals.. They failed.(Scorecard) Indian team, like a champion team, made roaring comeback after Sanath Jayasuriya & Kumar Sangakkara had laid the platform. Praveen Kumar, playing his 3rd oneday international - got his first wicket (Sangakkara edging to keeper Dhoni) and then backed it up with wickets of captain Jayawardene & Chamara Silva. right handed uttar pradesh all rounder finally showed why he's been so successful in Domestic cricket - surprising the batsman with rare bouncers, slower balls, tight length but most of the times - Praveen bowled perfect off-stump line for new batsman & got his wickets (4 for 31 in 10 ov). Praveen was also adjudged the man of the match. Irfan Pathan, at the other end, dismissed Jayasuriya & Ishant dismissed tillakratne Dilshan which pushed Lankan team nearly out of this match. Post match Quotes "Good players come out of it, but we seem to be making the same mistakes." said Srilankan captain Mahela Jayawardene on middle order batting not making runs! They (India) played good cricket and credit to them for making the finals and we didn't deserve to be there... Jayawardene

I don't bowl first change there, I bowl with the new ball and here the ball does not swing after the initial part, said Praveen kumar on why it took him some time before showing his abilities with ball.
